Abigail “Abbie” Chesterson is the Director of the Diabetes Education Center at Penn Medicine – University of Pennsylvania Health System. Abbie grew up outside of Philadelphia and studied Nutritional Sciences at Penn State University. After graduating, she completed her Dietetic Internship with the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. After working for a few years as a Registered Dietitian in Washington, D.C., Abbie decided to pursue her Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certificate. She has experience working with three hospital diabetes programs, in both the hospital-based Diabetes Education Center and in the primary care provider’s office. In recent years, Abbie has represented newer Diabetes Educators as a member of various task forces with the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education.
