As our Summer Intern Spotlight series continues, we’re excited to introduce another member of our internship team! In this edition, you’ll get to know another of our summer interns, Ivy Thomas, as she shares her background, interests, and what led her to join Accessible Telehealth this summer.

My name is Ivy Thomas. I am currently attending Mohawk Valley Community College in central New York. I am currently in Liberal Arts but am going to switch to humanities. I want to go into the accessibility field and am currently considering jobs such as Teacher for the Visually Impaired, Orientation and Mobility instructor, or a Vision Rehab Therapist. Mohawk Valley is only a 2-year school and I am looking for my next steps after graduating. I am expected to graduate in 2027 from Mohawk Valley then I will transfer to another school for further education. 

In high school I didn’t participate in many clubs or extracurricular activities. I wasn’t the most social in school and didn’t have much interest in any clubs or extracurricular activities that my school offered. 

I chose to get involved with the Accessible Pharmacy because I wanted to expand my horizons and explore different career ideas. Through this experience I hope to gain a better understanding of an online career, improve my teamwork skills, and learn about the medical field. 

In my free time I like to watch documentaries and learn languages. I can speak Brazilian Portuguese and Mandarin. I was born in China and have had an interest in learning about other cultures and countries for my whole life. When you learn a language, you passively learn about the culture. Language is one of the main ways people form their beliefs and views of the world and learning a language can be exciting and help you be more empathetic to others. 

I am excited to learn more about online work and learn and improve my skills. I don’t know much about the medical field and I’m excited to experience a new field that I am less familiar with. Knowing more about the medical field is an exciting opportunity and I’m always eager to learn more.

Accessibility is important to me because I have been visually impaired all my life and I want more people and businesses to understand the struggles of people who have disabilities. People with disabilities are already disadvantaged enough and having more of the world be accessible would be good for them and the businesses. Everyone should strive to make the world a more inclusive place and give everyone the same resources they need to succeed.
